Superb Replacement Insoles March 5, 2010 John Ritchey I am VERY impressed with the SOLE brand of replacement insoles. Depending on the walking shoe or hiking boot, I use either the regular or ultra thickness. The Ultra Sole is about twice as cushioning as the "regular" SOLE insole. SOLE insoles offer terrific arch support in particular. One advantage they offer over another popular brand (Superfeet) is that they can be heated briefly in the oven, placed in your shoe or hiking boot and they mold themselves to your foot and shoe. I have suffered from plantar fasciitis for 4 months. I was on the verge of spending $400 on custom orthotics. A friend advised me to first try the SOLE insoles. He predicted that I may find I would not need the more expensive orthotics. He was right! BTW, they are impervious to water. This is relevant as I use a pair in my fly fishing wading shoes. I have tried a variety of insoles brands ranging in price from $9 to $45. Without a doubt, they are far superior to the other over-the-counter products that are out there.
sole softec--it works February 8, 2010 govnr (fort smith, ar) Have used these for 2 yrs and: Do they work better than a 400 dollar doctor perscribed orthotic? Yes, you had better believe it, because they out last the 400 dollar ripoffs, are more comfortable, 10
% of the cost, and they actually, totally relieve heel spurs.
not for everyone, but are really great for many people December 31, 2009 l2 (California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you're just looking for basic replacement insoles for your sneakers, perhaps with a little more padding, these Sole insoles are probably not for you. There are lots of other products on the market that will do what you want for less money. Start by checking out some of the drug store brands that work fairly well for not a lot money.
The Sole insoles are for people that need a lot of arch support. Without that arch support, you may not be able to stand or walk comfortably, especially for hours at a time. There are other arch support insoles on the market and I have tried several of them. The problem with the other products is that different people have different shaped feet and all the other products (that I have tried) have the arch support in a fixed position that doesn't match the shape of my arches. The big advantage of Sole is that the arch support molds to fit the shape of your foot, guaranteeing that it will be more comfortable for you than all the fixed-arch products. Also, you can tune them to have different amounts of support for your left vs. right feet.
Sole makes different insoles with different amounts of padding. The Ultra model has the most padding, which is good for hiking boots, since your feet will be pounding on rocky trails for miles at a time. The extra padding is also nice if you are trying to fit low-volume feet into high-volume shoes. If you're wearing snug-fitting running shoes or bicycling shoes or skate boots or ski boots, then the thinner Sole insoles are a better choice.
Prices on these things vary from retailer to retailer. $45 is a lot of money for an insole, especially since a lot of my shoes don't cost that much. I was glad to find them at a good discount at Amazon. Also check the Sole website for occasional manufacturer closeouts.
Best Insoles With Arch Support Ever October 19, 2009 Picky Reader (U.S.A.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love my Sole insoles. I have the Ultra and the thin ones for dresswear, too. They're easy to heat up in the oven--which you need to do the first time to get them to mold to your feet. The cushioning layer is awesome. In every other insole I tried, the cushioning just flattened to nothing. Not these. When they're in my shoes, I noticed I can wear the shoes for much longer--like, hours instead of minutes--before my feet start aching.
The instructions for molding them are pretty easy to follow. It was also not a big deal to trim a pair down to fit my shoe when I was between sizes (they recommend you get the next size up so you can do just that.) I just cut them around the (now obsolete) insole that the shoes came with. I have arch pain issues, so I don't exercise without them. I've been wearing my Sole footbeds for more than five years and only had to replace them once. Unless they change the "magic formula," I'd buy them again in a hot second.
not for me August 29, 2009 M Cox (sc, usa) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this is my first negative review. I was really looking for a more durable comfortable replacement insole for athletic type shoes. Product is as described. Instructions were easy to follow and molding process worked well. However, these are the most uncomfortable insoles i have ever worn. i followed typical break in procedure; wearing a couple hours each day. But had increasing foot, leg, and back pain. I gave up for a few months, but recently remolded the insoles and again followed a very gentle break in regimen. Again, increasing foot, leg, and back pain. Maybe they are too firm for me. I have worn other types of insoles without difficulty.
