Great Disco! October 30, 2008 R. Hubbartt (Ashburn, VA USA) If you like the old disco tunes, then this one is for you! I liked the selection of various artists and it keeps me pumped while in traffic.
fine album of disco hits that make me wanna DANCE !!! June 12, 2008 Matthew G. Sherwin 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Monster Disco has great disco tunes that made the airwaves sizzle back in the `70s! These songs are anything but bland and the quality of the sound is truly excellent. There is a good diversity of artists and the artwork is nicely done, too. Thelma Houston starts the CD off with her excellent disco tune entitled "Don't Leave Me This Way." "Don't Leave Me This Way" has great musical special effects; and the percussion marks the beat well. If you listen closely you can even hear a strings section! Thelma's voice is as clear as a bell and she sings this with loads of feeling and this makes "Don't Leave Me This Way" a powerful number to start off this album. The Trammps follow with their huge hit, "Disco Inferno." "Disco Inferno" always makes me want to dance and it was very, very popular back in the day. It's still good dancing music and The Trammps perform this with all their might--what an electric number! Rose Royce also contributes her smash hit "Car Wash;" "Car Wash" has a great beat and Rose sings this without a superfluous note! "Car Wash" is a solid disco number with a great beat and I really like this tune. The Village People sing their hit "Macho Man;" many a dance floor was packed when this tune hit the DJ's turntable! "Macho Man" is a great disco tune with just enough camp to make it really fun as well. There's also Donna Summer's hot-as-anything hit, "Dim All The Lights." "Dim All The Lights" has great key modulations and Donna sings this with lots of feeling. Donna's voice is strong; rich and very vibrant; and she was justifiably the queen of disco for quite some while at the time. Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood" kicks up the heat with a super fast tempo and the musical effects are great. Amii sings this brilliantly and I never tire of hearing Amii Stewart singing "Knock On Wood." "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor is a prime example of fine disco dance music; Gloria belts this out like the diva she always was and still remains! Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn The Beat Around" was especially popular in the disco clubs; "Turn The Beat Around" really shines and just one listen tells you why this tune was so very well liked. It's excellent for dancing and Vicki Sue Robinson sings this with heart and soul--great! Tavares does "More Than A Woman" which is a fine example of a slower paced disco tune; "More Than A Woman" puts Tavares front and center--and that's right where they belong! I also like "We Are Family;" this hit from Sister Sledge is catchy and the main lyrics are memorable, too. "Shame" by Evelyn 'Champagne' King has yet another excellent disco beat that's lots of fun to dance to even today; and the album ends very well with Lipps, Inc performing "Funkytown." "Funkytown" is indeed a bit funky and it makes a good last track for this CD. Monster Disco has so much to enjoy; it's really a must-have for disco fans unless they prefer to purchase box sets of disco music for sale on this website. Perhaps the more casual fan will be satisfied with a single CD that is as special as this one is.
Covers the best of disco '76-'80! Excellent! August 24, 2004 Preston (nc) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've had this CD for two years and still love it! Much credit should go to the person who compiled 18 songs and 63 minutes on this album!!! From Boogie Oogie Oogie to Got To Be Real to Disco Inferno to Dim all the Lights to Turn the Beat Around to Knock on Wood and I Will Survive and many others, this album covers that disco period so very well! Good summer listen too when you hear it during the season! This is one the best disco compilations I've gotten even in an era of CDs and the Internet (vinyl was the only thing back then). A lot of people made fun of that period with the clothes and some of the music, but there was a lot of good music, especially in 1978 and 1979 with disco that people still include it in some of today's 2004 music. These songs have still endured and held up to this day!
