Fine for one small frame pistol January 7, 2009 rhawkman (Nebraska) Price was great and I was happy to get free shipping also. I couldnt find anything with the features and price in my local area and you could spend a lot more on the web. This thing works fine. The opening for the door is kind of small and I even have to tilt my Steyr M9 to get it in and out, but fits fine once inside. If you want to have roomy, easy full hand access, you should look at something bigger. The reset button was rather difficult to locate when programming the code. The instructions dont give the best description of where to find it, but after that no problem. I did not mount this or bolt it to anything. I figured being in here gives me quick access to the weapon but if someone grabs it, it is just a heavy thing to hit someone with.
Heavy Duty and Reliable January 5, 2009 LeJester (Alabama) This is an incredible value. I feel totally safe leaving a weapon unattended in this product. Mounted to a stud this is not coming off the wall without a fight. Then accessing the contents would be difficult as well. It can also be hidden behind cloths in any closet. This makes it difficult to find. I have a regular firearm fire safe that is for long term storage. However for the cost, this is the best product on the market. This Item can secure a full sized firearm. I keep an H&K USP in one of mine. At the price, I bought one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
Don't buy this safe! December 31, 2008 R. Haeberle (Plymouth MI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't buy this safe!!! There are two major design flaws. 1. The first is the lack of a mechanical key backup to unlock the safe if the electronics fail. Remember, any electronic device will fail eventually. If the electronics fail you have no way to open the safe but to cut it open. 2. The second flaw is exposed wiring and battery pack on the inside. I placed a metal object in the safe and it fell against the battery terminals shorting it out. This erased the electronic combination that was programmed into the safe and it could not be opened. I had to pick up the cabinet the unit was bolted to and tilt it over to get the object to slide away from the terminals. Once the metal object slid away from the battery terminals I had to hold a 9 V battery to the external connections and re-enter the default combination. Luckily I was able to determine what had happened and did not have to destroy the cabinet it was bolted to or cut open the safe and risk damaging the contents. Spend the extra money and buy a safe with a better design and a back up key entry in case the batteries or electronics fail.
Great handgun safe for those with children December 22, 2008 DaDa (Memphis, TN USA) I really like this safe for keeping my children away from my firearm. Pros: 1. It is not expensive. 2. It is easy to use. 3. Small enough to fit most anywhere (mine is screwed into the wall of my closet, and is hidden by my clothes). Cons: 1. Keys don't light up at night. 2. Keys are HOMAK, so having a meaningful code is not likely. 3. If you have more than one handgun (with magazines), you may want a bigger size. Overall, I am well pleased with this safe.
Perfect Protection December 16, 2008 Gary D. Crockett (Bountiful, Utah, USA) This safe is perfect for what I wanted it to do, keep the weapon from getting into little hands. I would love to have had the option of getting one that could be mounted on shelf laying flat, which means it would have been better to have the hinges on the other side. I knew what I was getting, I found a place to mount it verticallly, and it works great. It is the perfect size for a smaller handgun, mine is a Bersa Thunder 380. If you have a larger, 1911 type weapon, you would be better off getting the larger size. Quick and easy access to a weapon should it be needed in a hurry. If you have youngsters around, this is the box you need.
