Just the right combination December 4, 2008 J. Pierce (Texas) I've used hunting knives, 2 blade folding pocket knives and swiss army knives. I love the versatility of the swill army knife, but there are times I want a larger blade and I honestly don't use all the tools. The Buck X-Tract has a large, strong blade (with partial seration), a flat and phillips head screwdriver and a pair of pliers... the most used tools. I think this is a great combination in a size that's just right. The sheath can be used vertically or horizontally (I like the option and use it both ways depending on my needs)... it has a snap, maybe velcro would be more secure, but so far it hasn't unsnapped accidentally.
It's a bit big, but he loves it December 1, 2008 A. Cates (Asheville and Southport, NC) I bought it for my boyfriend for his birthday. He LOVES it. I didn't get to see it beforehand, but I picked it out because it's a Buck and he likes the multipurpose knives. I finally saw it last week and was surprised by how big it was, I thought it was a little over half the size it actually is. Apparently he really enjoys that it "flips" open easily. He was very proud of it when he showed it to me.
The best multitool I have owned November 4, 2007 B. Shaw 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been immensely pleased with this knife. Buck quality, it is sturdy, rugged and SHARP. I was nervous about the pliers at first-they look less than trustworthy in the pictures- but they are tougher than those on any multitool that I have used. The slide action allows them to be torqued and abused without harm to the body or the pliers themselves. Working at a stable presents countless opportunities for this knife to show its stuff, and it hasn't let me down. I use it on projects as varied as adjusting a bike to cutting bale wire. If you are looking for a hard-working multitool made by the best company in the business, your search stops here.
Handy Tool August 4, 2007 Aubrey D. Duncan (Collierville, TN USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Buck X-Tract Multi-Tool is very functional and easy to operate. The one hand operation allows you hold onto whatever you are working with and access the proper tool with the other hand. Pliers are a bit small for some jobs, but still very functional on most around the house and campsite sort of jobs.
A Design that needs work. May 8, 2007 A. Esposito (South Jersey) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The concept of the one handed pliers is what sold me on the X-Tract. I have been an everyday user of a multitool since they first hit the mass market as my work demands it. After using the X-Tract for the past 5 months I have come not to expect as much from the pliers and find myself reaching for my conventional style multitool as there is no power, nor grip. As for the knife blade and the screwdriver bits, I am always using them. They are all easy to access and the blade is one sharp edge which I find easy to keep that way. The openner is a useless item to me but I am sure that it works great. Despite the short comings I do carry this knife everyday as I find the blade to suit my needs.
