Golf Buddy Pro Review August 25, 2010 Joy Lamontagne (The Villages Florida) I have been using this device for over a year now and I must say that I am thrilled with it. I live in "The Villages" Florida which has over 450 holes of golf to play and enjoy. Every hole is available and very accuaretly gives the information, that every golfer needs, to make the right club selection. I suggest that you register the device and periodically check for new courses, updates and firmware updates. Buy it, you will be delighted.
An Okay Unit August 20, 2010 F. Dongieux 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought a Tour model which did not automatically recognize hole. Returned it and got a Pro model. Same device with black & white display vs. color. Color isn't worth the extra $$. The Pro is okay, but is slow to register exact distances, unlike my SkyCaddie. Sometimes there is a 10 yard or so difference between the two units (SC is the more accurate one). I like the GB's feature of target listing - easy. GB is slower to boot up than Skycaddie, but turn it on when you get to your course, and it will be ready when you tee off. Sometimes if you leave a cart some distance from a green, you have to manually advance to the next hole, as the GB still thinks you're around the green. Easy to manually advance hole, but you shouldn't have to. Bought the unit because of 1 - no annual fees; 2 - course capacity; 3 - ease of identifying hazards and targets. Score keeping feature is good, as is time display and shot measurement distance. Read the user manual directions - go online and update the course list and firmware before you play - it will work better. Unless you are a low handicap player and/or demand high accuracy quickly, this unit should be satisfactory.
short battery life August 12, 2010 T. Davy After reading reviews etc. picked the buddy pro, seem to work ok, not sure if the course was off but sometimes off by 10+ yard per the yardage marker. But the issue was after using only once the battery's charge was reduced to 2/3 max and would drop to 1/2 after only a few minutes being on. Returned it. The other item is the info around the screen was very small, those who need glasses will have troubles reading without. Would have given it more chance to see if worked better on some other courses but had to return once battery charge was the issue, didn't want to risk the same problem so just returned it. Haven't decided what to do still want one, liked the idea on not paying an annual fee.
Horrible Customer Support August 7, 2010 Keith Colwell The Golf Buddy Pro has difficulty loading and at times looses all satellite signals....very frustrating in the middle of the round.
The customer care staff is very very inflexible and I found them unwilling to stand behind their product even after only a short time had expired after the 90 day warranty.
Mine would not load and eventually burned up the motherboard. The company would not replace it....they wanted to sell me a re-manufactured one instead for $165. I will not repurchase anything from Golf Buddy.
This is an average product with way below average customer service relationships.
Excellent product, no fees July 6, 2010 R. Walker (Kansas) This product is a no nonsense golf GPS. Provides everything you need, yaradage, score tracker and the ability to put in your own targets (very easy!). Plus there is no annual or monthly renewal fee. I did a lot of research before buying the Golf Buddy, and even though there are some out there that have a few more bells and whistles having no fees trumped them all. To my knowledge this is the only golf GPS range finder that does not have any fees.
